It’s marvellous
These days it’s so easy to do our all our shopping on line. In the comfort of our home. At any time, day or night. We don’t even have to go out in the cold or when it’s raining and your purchases magically arrive in a few days later. It’s marvellous.!
On the other hand..
There is a down side however… The local economy suffers. Since I was a store owner myself for 9 years, I take the local economy to heart. It’s those small businesses that keep the economy strong. They employ people that live in the area and they in turn spend the money they earn in the businesses in the area, and so on.
Happily, the store I had was not affected by on line shopping. Since the price range was from 1$ to 10$, most people don’t go online for these kinds of things. But this is not the case for all the stores. Some that were not able to adjust to the new technology had to close down. A lot of people lost their jobs due to these closures.
The dilemma
I have to admit that I face a dilemma on my blog. On one hand I advocate buying local. On the other hand, if I talk about a product on my blog do I put a link to buy it on the web?? Hmmm…. good question…
But, if I write about, let’s say, a book that I have discovered and find it absolutely riveting . Then you go to a store near you and it’s not there… Well you’re no further ahead… So, after thinking about it, yes, I will indicate some links to buy on line.
Here’s what I suggest, ask yourself : can I find it in a store nearby? By doing so, together we will contribute to the continuance of our local jobs and economy.
